How much is my personal injury case worth?

One of the first questions we receive from our personal injury clients is “How much is my case worth?”  This is a very important question for individuals who are injured due to the fault of another person.  In the law, we call this damages – the amount of money that can fix the harm caused to the plaintiff.  In personal injury case, the type of damages we typically seek are known as “compensatory damages,” which aim to compensate the plaintiff for his or her losses from an accident.  The goal is to put the plaintiff in as close of a position as possible had the accident not happened.

Personal Injury lawSome losses are easy to calculate, such as medical bills and lost wages.  However, other losses are more difficult to calculate – the loss of a limb or pain and suffering, for example – yet the law provides money damages for all losses.  Of course, a catastrophic injury will be “worth” much more than a case involving only minor injuries.  After reviewing our clients’ case, we are able to provide our clients with an accurate evaluation of his or her personal injury case.

The concept of damages typically includes compensation for medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.  However, there are many other types of damages such as emotional distress, loss of a loved one, loss of enjoyment of life, etc.  The only way to place an accurate estimate on the value of your personal injury case is to speak with an experienced RI personal injury lawyer.  Our lawyers provide free consultations to clients and only receive compensation if we provide you with a recovery.
